What makes Terra Vista a trusted secure memory care community in Oakbrook Terrace, IL?
Our environment is built around the needs of residents with memory loss. From controlled access points and attentive care staff to our expansive Innerwalk™ courtyard, every detail is designed to support safety, comfort, independence, and dignity
What safety and security measures does Terra Vista provide for residents with dementia?
Terra Vista is thoughtfully designed to offer residents a sense of freedom within a supportive environment, including safe opportunities to move, explore, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors.
How does Terra Vista adjust personal care as a resident’s needs change?
Families often ask, “What does high acuity mean?” In memory care, high acuity generally refers to residents who need a higher level of daily assistance or supervision. At Terra Vista, our care team tailors each resident’s care plan so they continue receiving the support they need while being treated with dignity.
What dementia sensory activities are offered at Terra Vista?
Innerwalk™ is one of Terra Vista’s most distinctive features. This 18,000+ square-foot outdoor courtyard was designed specifically for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, with wide circular pathways, non-toxic plants, wayfinding elements, seating areas, assistive lighting, and the Serenity Fountain with “dancing waters.” These features help support the senses most affected by dementia, including sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste.
How does Terra Vista support meals, nutrition, and changing dining needs?
Our team supports residents with nourishing meals, calm routines, and individualized dining assistance. Terra Vista can also accommodate special dietary needs, including diabetic, low-sodium, texture-modified, vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requirements,
How does Terra Vista help residents feel comfortable, understood, and at home?
This approach also guides how we communicate. Validation-based communication means responding to a resident’s emotions with empathy rather than correction or argument. We encourage families to tour Terra Vista to experience our secure memory care community, meet our team, and see the thoughtful design of our apartments, common spaces, and Innerwalk™ courtyard. Tours typically take about one hour, giving families time to ask questions and explore all that Terra Vista has to offer.
