Large Turnout for Free Memory Screenings

Terra Vista of Oakbrook Terrace – Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Terra Vista recently partnered with Glen Ellyn Public Library to offer the community a free seminar on Alzheimer’s disease as well as free memory screenings. Executive Director, Natalie McFarland, RN, BSN & Dementia Care Educator, presented “Understanding Alzheimer’s” to almost 50 attendees. McFarland covered such areas as the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia and the top 10 warning signs. After the seminar, McFarland, joined by Vicie Johnson, RN, administered memory screenings for those people who registered in advance. Due to a strong interest, the two returned the next day to accommodate everyone who registered. “It was wonderful to see so many older adults being proactive in early detection and getting screened” said McFarland. Memory screens are used to determine if a person needs to pursue further testing for dementia by their physician.
